Amgen Tour of California : This professional cycling event debuted early in 2006 and is sponsored by the biotechnology company Amgen. The eight-day, 700 mile race started in San Francisco, CA, winding its way down the California coast to finish in Redondo Beach.The prolog race goes to Coit Tower a few blocks from the Inn.

Big Boat Series: September 15 - 18 be sure to check out the Rolex Big Boat Series. Many of the world's top maxi yacht programs make plans to compete in the West Coast Classic organized by the St. Francis Yacht Club. Three maxis have confirmed their entries including Genuine Risk owned by Randall Pitman, Morning Glory owned by Hasso Platner and Peligroso owned by Mike Campbell and Dale Williams. This year's series will take competitors out of the San Francisco Bay, past the Golden Gate Bridge and into the Pacific Ocean as part of an extended racecourse and is expected to draw over 100 boats in 12 one-design and IRC handicap classes.
